We are studying the incombustibility of wood. Therefore, the name of soufa was originally called “non-flammable liquid”. However, it is common to call it “flame retardant”.

Let me explain why we called it nonflammable liquid.
The use of wood is mainly intended for architectural uses. There are various restrictions in architecture, and there are often restrictions that burning objects should not be used.
If there is a restriction that flammable materials must not be used, wood will be recognized as flammable and cannot be used in principle.
However, there are exceptional cases where use is permitted. That is what is called “noncombustible material”.
Materials that have non-combustibility properties approved by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism are recognized as “non-combustibles” and there is no legal restriction on their use in various places.

And the sorting category at that time is as follows.

・ Non-combustible material
・ Semi-combustible materials
・ Flame retardant material

It is the material with the highest level from the top. In this way, building materials use the term “non-combustible” to indicate the incombustibility, so flame retardants for wood are often called “non-combustible liquids” that make non-combustible wood.

However, we recently describe soufa as “flame retardant”.
This is because, in recent years, inquiries about other chemicals, etc., rather than wood-based products, have been increasing in volume, and according to that standard, it is commonly called “flame retardant”.

For example, there is a test called UL94 in the combustion test applied to plastics.
According to this, “flame retardancy” is to be evaluated according to the degree of combustion.
In addition, other than the building materials in Japan, the system is evaluated as “flame retardant”.
That is why our company describes it as a soufa flame retardant.

Then there are a few problems.
That is when we are meeting with a company that manufactures non-combustible wood. When talking with the person in charge of the company that supplies drugs from our company, it seems that it does not feel right to say “flame retardant”.
This is because the term “flame retardant” is considered to be inferior to “non-flammable” in non-combustible wood, so the term “flame retardant” seems to catch on.
Therefore, when discussing with non-combustible wood manufacturers, we use “non-combustible liquid” as much as possible. That is easier to talk to.

But … When talking with manufacturers who are building “building materials” instead of non-combustible wood, the term “flame retardant” is used to make the conversation go smoothly. What is this difference?
I think building materials manufacturers are in the same position because they are developing products for the purpose of clearing the nonflammability test in Japan, but the story goes on for some reason. It may be because we are dealing with other flame retardants, and if we consider overseas exports, we will conduct a “flame retardant test”, so there may be no sense of incompatibility with the term “flame retardant” Yeah.

Although it is a detailed story, it is a word that I recently noticed, so I will write it instead of a memorandum.

The post Boron flame retardant soufa and flame retardant first appeared on SOUFA INC.Boric acid flameretardant& Termiticide.

Itoigawa Fire was widely reported.
There is a lot of fire news in winter.

A wooden house made of fire- and flame-retardant wood will probably extinguish before it spreads.
Because the skeleton does not burn. A typical wooden house is untreated wood and will burn if a fire occurs.

However, I wonder if there are places where it can’t be prevented if the wind blows into it.

Incombustible wood products are being developed by each company.
We supply flame retardants (fire retardants) for non-combustible wood, but inquiries and purchases from individual users are increasing recently.

Houses made of incombustible wood do not burn out easily. However, there is probably no single-family house whose structure is made of non-combustible wood. Because the cost is high.
Non-combustible wood uses special chemicals to make the wood itself less flammable. Therefore, it is more expensive than ordinary wood.
In general, if you are looking for a house that is difficult to burn, build a house made of concrete or steel. There is no idea to manufacture from non-combustible wood.

But what if costs could be reduced?
What if performance could not be as good as incombustible wood, but could be slowed down and reduced toxins at a lower cost?
This is possible with SOUFA manufactured by our company. The following is a video of the combustion experiment.

At present, construction is done at temples and shrines, but if you paint soufa on the structure and base of the house before building a detached house, the fire like this is a little smaller I think it’s done.
In the case of an existing house, construction is difficult because the structure is already inside the wall, but construction is easy if it is a new wooden house.

The construction method looks like this.

If this makes one house less flammable, you may have more time to extinguish the fire.

There are many densely populated areas in Tokyo, and Tokyo’s policy is to rebuild or demolish houses and increase the road width.
I don’t think there will be a problem if you can do that, but in reality you will not be able to ignore the intentions of the people who live, and rebuilding will be costly. Whether or not the resident chooses it … annoying.

Some non-toxic flame retardants for wooden construction exist.
I hope that such things can be reduced by promoting flame retardation even a little.

The post [Thinking about a large fire in Itoigawa City] Is a wooden house fire-resistant (flame retardant) effective against fire? first appeared on SOUFA INC.Boric acid flameretardant& Termiticide.
